Fast trains on Harbour line, Panvel-Virar Corridor... dreams to come true!

Good News for all Mumbai and Navi Mumbai commuters. The implementation of MUTP Phase three has been finally approved. Essentially, this means:

  1. A fast corridor for Harbour line between Panvel and CST
  2. A new corridor: Panvel-Diva-Vasai Road-Virar
  3. Extension of Harbour line up to Borivali
  4. 3rd and 4th lines on Virar-Dahanu, Kalyan-Karjat and Kalyan-Kasara routes
  5. 5th and 6th lines on Borivali-Virar route
Of course, such long projects would take years to be implemented, but when the plan is approved we can be sure of it!

Cheers!!!

Getting the Thane-Vashi-Nerul line itself took so long. These lines will be when our children have children :)

I fail to understand as to why a new suburban line on the Virar-Vasai-Diva-Panvel would be needed. The line is highly underutilized and is mostly used by trains heading towards Konkan Railway from Western Railway. It is occasionally used by MEMU trains which are far and few in between. Since this line is already electrified under 25,000 Volts Alternating Current and also considering the gross under utilization of this line, it would be thoughtful of the MRVC or the Ministry of Railways if they could proclaim the line as a suburban line with dedicated commuter trains running on them.

this is just like some ladies special trains and 3 coaches dedicated to ladies at a time of the day when these are not required...
