Accident? DON'T JUST CLICK PHOTOS, HELP PEOPLE

Letter to those with camera phones:

It's a shame that someone has to say this but when you witness an accident DON'T JUST CLICK PHOTOS, HELP PEOPLE.

Another derailment happened in Mumbai yesterday. One killed, 23 injured. Suddenly, again, a person became a number. HSC student Dhaval Lodaya (17) could not be saved. Could have been saved. Only if medical help arrived in time. Reportedly, it took 90 minutes. I know, it is not a surprise to most of Mumbaikars. But there were people, a lot of people. Some injured, some just saved, some onlookers. And yet, in those 90 minutes when the ambulance did not arrive, people kept clicking photos, or that's what I read in the newspaper.

Echoing the voice of commuters

While travelling by a Mumbai local train, there are so many things you regularly hear, say or want to say:
"Kidhar utarna hai? Door kyun block karke rakha hai?"
"Zara sarko bhaiiya, fourth seat pe baithna hai."
"Khaalipeeli machmach nahi karneka."
"Thoda push karo, jagaah ban jayegi."
"Dus ka paanch, gaanvti santra lo!"
"#*%^... #%*+...
As a guest blogger with Half Baked Voices, I got an opportunity to bring to light the voice of daily commuters. I am sure, you can relate to what I have listed out here. Do let me know what you would like to add to the list,

The world around is not a dustbin!

For the last one month, there has not been a single day when I haven't witnessed people littering through the windows of the local trains. What's more disheartening is that mothers, seemingly educated as is visible from the way they dress and travel in the first class compartment, do so in the presence of their little kids. It's one thing that they do not understand the importance of keeping the city clean. But passing on such habits to the next generation is creating a future city of rubbish around us.

Take THE GOOD COMMUTER 3-POINT PLEDGE THIS INDEPENDENCE DAY.

Yes, we have so many complaints against the system and services. And many of us think there is nothing much we can do about it. BUT WE CAN make the smaller differences. This Independence Day, let's pledge to do what we can to make the local trains, platforms and the city a cleaner place.

Join us in the 3-POINT PLEDGE below and share with us your stories. The best stories will be published on this blog.

1 - If I notice people littering in / from the trains / platforms, I will politely ask them not to do so (When other commuters notice you doing so, they will also stop littering and ask others from doing so)
2 - If I notice youngsters performing stunts in trains, I will interrupt / call the helpline number 1275 immediately.
3 - If I take a train to the last station and I know no one will board my compartment at that time, I will switch off the fans.

If you are all set to join us in this mission, Please comment 'I Pledge' here and please share.
