Do not travel on footboard, doors can fly!

Four-year old Sharnu Kumbhar and 35-year old Chandrabai Hadkamal lost their arms yesterday in a freak accident.

As the16529 Mumbai-Bengaluru Udyan Express they were travelling by ran between Nahur and Mulund stations, a door panel of an Ambarnath-CST local travelling in the opposite direction came off its frame and hit their compartment. While Sharnu (left hand wrist had to be amputated) was sitting by the window, Chandrabai (lost her right arm) was seated near the door as she did not have any reservation.

Ex-gratia payment of Rs.5000/- each has been announced for the injured passengers. Seriously!!! Imagine all that you can do with Rs 5000 all your life when you do not have an arm! Well, I won't continue complaining here... what's the point?

Due to this incident, 12534 Mumbai-Lucknow Pushpak Express and 11029 Mumbai-Kolhapur Koyna Express were delayed by 30 minutes.

Mega block on Central Line - Saturday / Sunday

This week, the Sunday waala mega block on the Central Line begins at 11 pm on Saturday, January 15.
Here are the mega block timings:

TRAINS CANCELLED ON 15TH JANUARY, 2011
CST to Thane: 11.05 pm, 11.16 pm and 11.24 pm

Kalyan to CST: 9.52 pm
Dombivli to CST: 9.59 pm
Thane to CST: 9.59 pm

Also, CST to Thane train leaving CST station at 10.53 pm will run up to Kurla

TRAINS CANCELLED FROM 15TH - 16TH JANUARY, 2011
No local trains will run on the fast line between Vidyavihar and Mulund stations from 11 pm on Saturday, 15th January to 4 pm on Sunday, 16th January.

Mega block timings today for Central and Harbour line

Sunday the 14th of November 2010... time for Mumbai Local Trains Mega Block!

If you plan to commute by local trains today, you must know that like every Sunday, Central Railway will be operating a mega block even today. And here are the timings when the local train services will be affected:

Mega Block, Deserted Tracks

Local trains will not run from Kurla to Mumbai CST from 11 am to 4 pm.
Trains will also not run between Wadala (Vadala) and Bandra (both directions) from 11 am to 4 pm.


However, up harbour line services leaving Kurla will take the main line route from 10.04 am to 3.54 pm but will not stop at Curry Road and Chichpokli stations.

Harbour line trains will not run from CST to Bandra / Andheri  from 10.47 am to 4.03 pm.
Harbour line trains will not run from Bandra / Andheri  to CST from 10.41 am to 3.48 pm.

Thane and Kalyan fast track line will face a mega block between 10.45 am and 4.15 pm. Fast trains from Kalyan from 10.30 am to 4.09 pm will run as slow trains on the slow track between Kalyan and Thane stations.

Food stalls at WR, CR stations get a makeover!

The new (alright, not so new now) purple and while super-ventilated Mumbai local trains are a treat to the eyes, aren't they? Don't tell me when you first saw this train pass by, you didn't yearn to board it. I remember I was traveling with my mom and mom-in-law in the traditional local train and how they saw the purple beauty pass and exclaimed "We never traveled by this new train"! I only wished I could do something about it. But then, since they travel by train only once in a few months, it's a tough task. I'd have to wait for all the trains to be revamped or have to be really lucky.

Anyways, while we still bask in the relief of these new rakes, there's yet another surprise by the railways. Check out the Yellow-Green modular food stall at CST station! Trust me, even if you are not among those who buy  snacks from railway stalls, these stalls will definitely tempt you. Now whether you'll be pleased with what they have to offer is a different question ;) And relax, the new food stalls will be installed at both Western (25 stalls) and Central (19 stalls) line stations. Thankfully, cooking would not be allowed at the stalls. I just hope that people respect the beautification move by the railways and do not litter.

Central, harbour line mega block timings on 31st Jan

Mumbai's harbour line is having a mega block today on 31st January 2010 due to railways' maintenance work.
Because of the mega block, the local trains will not run from Kurla to Mumbai CST from 11 am to 4 pm. Trains will also not run between Wadala and Bandra (both directions) from 11 am to 4 pm.

However, up harbour line services from Kurla will take the main line route from 11.07 am to 3.56 pm but will not stop at Curry Road and Chichpokli stations.

Trains from Mumbai CST towards Panvel will not face a mega block.

Harbour line trains will not run from CST to Bandra / Andheri  from 10.47 am to 4.03 pm.
Harbour line trains will not run from Bandra / Andheri  to CST from 10.41 am to 3.48 pm.

Harbour line commuters for Bandra / Andheri are allowed to travel on the central main line as well as the western line on their valid card/season tickets from 10 am to 6 pm on 31st January 2010.

Thane and Kalyan fast track line will face a mega block between 9.55 am and 3.25 pm. Fast trains from CST will run as slow trains on the slow track between Thane and Kalyan from 9.08 am to 1.40 pm.

Harbour line mega block timing today

24th January 2010: Due to a mega block, local trains would not be running the entire day between Belapur and Panvel stations today (it seems that work on this track will get over only at 2 am on 25th January).

But those who wish to travel up to Nerul from CST need not worry as these services won't be affected. Thane-Nerul trains will also be running.

In addition, there will be a mega block between Byculla and Ghatkopar from 10:55 am to 4:26 pm today on 24th January 2010.

Mumbai's harbour line new trains time table

Sunday morning couldn't have been better. My husband came across the ad about 50 additional local train services on the harbour line! Yes, new trains have been added on the Panvel-CST, Thane-Vashi and Nerul-Thane routes on either sides from 21st December 2009! Moreover, a few of the existing services are extended!

Here's the time table for new trains on the Panvel-Vashi-Vadala-CST route:

Friday the 13th - 2 coaches of a local train derail at CST station

Local trains (Mumbai central line) were running late in the morning of 13th November 2009. But the commuters were unaware of the reason. This time, 2 coaches of a train from Kasara derailed at platform number 6 of CST (Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus) station. The derailment happened at 7 in the morning obviously affecting the train services in the central line.

By the way, on 11th November too a train from Kalyan had derailed at CST. On November 4, 12 coaches of Gandhidham Bangalore Express from Ahmedabad to Bangalore derailed at Dombivli. What's wrong with the Railways? Or are these derailments sheer coincidences?
